3 Thought Thursday

By Monique Rhodes

Here is your weekly dose of three things that have impressed me during the week or that I am contemplating.

My favourite article of the week  -

This article was sent to me by one of my students. She explained to me that she is struggling to find passion in her job and this article had helped her a lot. It is called In the Name of Love and discusses the increasing expectation that we have to do work that love so much that we don't even recognise it as work. I read this article with great interest as I do work that I love. This week was a timely reminder.  I was in San Diego at the Brightline Eating Yearly Family Reunion. I am partnered with Brightline Eating, which is a weight loss program designed by Dr Susan Pierce Thompson, and last year I created a meditation program specifically for the clients of Dr Susan. For four days I was with four hundred remarkable people. Many of them had lost well over 100 pounds each (45 kilos) and almost all of them were waking up every day to the meditation program I had created to help support them on their journey. It reminded me how much I love my work. It's meaningful, it helps people, people get life changing results from it and I get to wake up each day completely loving what I do. However I am absolutely aware that this is not a usual experience of work and that I am in the minority. So if you are one of those people who struggles with this idea of why you don't love your work - you might find this article very interesting. I certainly did.

My favourite facebook post of the week -

I'm in the midst of writing a new course. And I have to admit it's not an easy process. It's long and hard and at times I find it more difficult to get myself on track than I expected. There are all of these other things I could so easily be doing. So I loved reading this article from Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love) about letting nothing stop you from your work. It's such a great reminder that putting the work in day after day, often year after year, is what creates results. I hope you find it as helpful as I did.

My favourite video of the week -

Because this is just a downright cool video about never listening to anyone who says you can't do something. Watch it and be inspired.

This week I am contemplating how I've seen so many people at the conference who have transformed themselves. It's a great thing to know, especially when we feel stuck, that we have the power within us to change.

Don't forget, if you have something that has touched or impressed you, send it on to me. I'm always looking to be blown away by the wonders of this world.

Enjoy!
